But with so many options, deciding where to retire in Florida can easily cause paralysis by analysis. That's why we've put together this handy guide to the best 55 plus communities of 2022. Pelican Preserve
If you're looking at retiring in Florida, Pelican Preserve should be on your radar. Located a short distance from Fort Myers, this retirement community offers rolling green golf courses interspersed with a mix of new and resale construction. Buyers have the opportunity to choose between a condominium overlooking the water or a detached single-family home.
With 2,500 homes and prices ranging from the high $200s to the mid $700s, this community boasts an impressive array of housing choices. At $475 a month for an estate and $550 a month for a condo, the HOA prices tend toward the pricier side. Whether you're a snowbird or looking for somewhere to settle down permanently in your retirement, Pelican Preserve has something for you.
Del Webb Nocatee
Conveniently located outside of Jacksonville, this Northern Florida retirement community plays host to some of the most beautiful facilities on our list. With a multi-generational community surrounding the master community, Del Webb Nocatee offers fantastic housing choices for those wanting to stay close to family in retirement.
Prices are a bit higher than Pelican Preserve, ranging from the high $300s to the high $700s. However, they're balanced out by lower HOA fees. Pay just $211 a month for an estate or $328.50 for a villa. With 862 homes to choose from Del Webb Nocatee offers a boutique style community with all of the amenities you'd find in one of its larger counterparts.
Mattamy Homes - WaterSong at RiverTown
Another Jacksonville-adjacent retirement community, Mattamy Homes - WaterSong at RiverTown offers great access to nature with long stretches of riverfront property and a nature trail. This five thousand-square-acre community offers plenty of recreational opportunities including a beer garden! While you won't find a golf course onsite, plenty of options are just a short drive outside the community.
From yoga to fitness classes, Mattamy Homes - WaterSong at RiverTown offers plenty of opportunities to stay active. This luxury development does come in on the pricier side. Most homes range from the mid $400s to the high $700s. However, HOA dues are relatively inexpensive at just $118 a month or $283 a month for villa owners. Royal Highlands
Nestled along the rolling hills of Leesburg, this central Florida 55-plus retirement community located conveniently outside of Orlando and provides unparalleled access to nature. With plenty of space to stretch out and affordable prices, Royal Highlands is a great choice if you want access to the recreational and community resources of The Villages without paying the high home prices and HOA fees.
Not only will you get to enjoy nature's wonders, but you'll enjoy spacious homes tastefully designed around the fairways of the beautiful Monarch Golf Club. Del Webb Sunbridge
This sunny central Florida retirement community is located just a short drive South of Orlando. Del Webb Sunbridge offers attractive amenities and easy access to multi-generational housing. The Sunbridge area continues to grow with additional shopping and amenities to come.
Another great thing about Del Webb Sunbridge is its proximity to Lake Nona and St. Cloud which opens the door to even more local entertainment and attractions. At Del Webb Sunbridge, you can choose between 13 home models starting from the high $300s into the low $600s. HOA fees range from $383 to $426 a month making it a solidly mid-priced option.
Del Webb Spruce Creek
One of the happiest 55 plus communities in Florida, Del Webb Spruce Creek is located just a short drive north of The Villages. However, you don't need to leave the community to access a full suite of amenities including a gym, a tennis court, a restaurant, a learning center, and a golf course. There is also plenty of green space and walking trails at this premium retirement community.
One of the best parts of the amenities at this community are the two pool areas. One resort style outdoor pool and one indoor pool with lap lanes, perfect for year-round use. Del Webb Spruce Creek is affordably priced with houses ranging from the high $200s to the low $600s. Single-family homes cost $158 a month in HOA dues while villa owners can expect to pay $283 a month.
